For 90 years, Swinton Band has been at the heart of our community.
Since 1936, we have brought people together through music, inspired generations of young musicians, performed at countless community events and proudly represented our village across North Yorkshire and beyond. In 2023, we were honoured to receive the King's Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to local voluntary groups in the UK, recognising the dedication of our volunteers and the positive impact the band has made within our community.
Today, our band is thriving. We have more players than ever before, a growing learners' programme, and ambitious plans to expand the opportunities we provide for people of all ages.
However, our current bandroom, which has served us faithfully throughout our history, can no longer meet our needs. Limited space, inadequate storage and a lack of parking restrict what we can achieve and the opportunities we can offer.
The Next 90 Years Appeal has been launched to help create a sustainable new bandroom and community music hub—a place where music can flourish, friendships can grow and the wider community can come together.
Our vision is not simply to build a new rehearsal space. We want to create a welcoming, accessible and sustainable community asset that will:
- Provide a modern home for Swinton Band.
- Inspire the next generation through music education.
- Offer flexible space for community groups, meetings and events.
- Improve accessibility, storage and parking.
- Create opportunities for people of all ages to connect through music and community activities.
This is an ambitious project, but with the support of our members, friends, local businesses, grant funders and the wider community, we believe we can create something truly special.
